Anti Burger Club is …

an outlet for Chef Willet Feng to create more than just tasty burgers. Willet is a classically trained chef with a penchant for Japanese, Southeast Asian, and Chinese cuisine. While Willet has plenty of dish ideas that he wants people to try, they don’t quite fit in on the burger-chan menu.

Hence the concept “Anti Burger Club”—or simply ABC—was born. Clearly we are a burger restaurant, so we are not against burgers by any means. But for the past few years, Willet has resorted to cooking non-burger dishes like curry laksa and chirashi as pop-ups out of bars and coffee shops. Now that he finally has his own brick-and-mortar, he can do dinner pop-ups inside the comfort of his own kitchen and space.

PREVIOUS ABC DINNERS

The inaugural Anti Burger Club dinner took place on Monday, April 4, 2022. The second ABC dinner was for takeout and delivery only on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, and Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 5:00pm until 7:30pm.

The third ABC dinner took place on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, and Thursday, June 16, 2022, from 5:00pm until 7:30pm.

The fourth ABC dinner was a wine dinner in collaboration with Alta Marfa Winery. The wine dinner was on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

The fifth ABC dinner on Monday, June 5, 2023, was a collaboration with Chef Gabriel Medina. They highlighted the influence of Chinese cuisine on Filipino food.

The sixth ABC dinner on Monday, July 10, 2023, was a collaboration with Chef Suu Khin. They presented a multi-course Southeast Asian tasting menu.

The seventh ABC dinner on Wednesday, August, 16, 2023, was a collaboration with Chef Niki Vongthong of Hidden Omakase. They presented a multi-course tasting menu featuring the flavors of Japan and Southeast Asia.

The eighth ABC dinner was the first ABC dinner to took place outside of burger-chan. This dinner was a collaboration with Sherman Yeung, the chef-owner of Money Cat, so it took place at his restaurant on Sunday, September 24, 2023, from 5pm until 10pm. They’ll presented their takes on traditional Cantonese dishes.

The ninth ABC dinner was a collaboration with Chef Nick Wong to present a Hong Kong Style Tea restaurant experience on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 5:30pm until 8:30pm. This dinner was available for dine-in and takeout, but no pre-orders or reservations were available.

UPCOMING ABC DINNER

The tenth ABC dinner will be a collaboration with Pastry Chef Stephen Perez to present an Italian dinner with Japanese touches—also known as itameshi—on Monday, March 25, 2024, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. This dinner will be available for dine-in and takeout, but no pre-orders or reservations are available.

Unless otherwise stated, ABC dinners will take place at burger-chan.

We are located at 5353 West Alabama Street Suite 110 Houston, TX 77056.

In two weeks, Chefs Stephen Perez | @chefasaurusrex and Willet Feng | @willetcooks will collaborate on the tenth Anti Burger Club | @antiburgerclub dinner.

This dinner will feature itameshi, which is Italian food with Japanese touches.

We are also excited to offer several lesser-known Italian beers and wines that will pair well with the dishes. Japanese beers and sakes will also be available!

This dinner is not ticketed and there are no reservations. Food will be available for dine-in and takeout.

ABC Dinner # 8

Join us on Sunday, 9/24/2023, from 5pm until 10pm at Money Cat (2925 Richmond Ave, Suite 140, Houston, TX 77098 next to Levy Park) for Chefs Sherman Yeung and Willet Feng’s take on Cantonese classics!

Chefs Yeung and Feng will offer their takes on dishes such as char siu pork, crispy pork belly, egg tart, gailan, baked pork chop rice, and more!

Anti Burger Club is back next week to take care of your midday dinner plan needs.

On Wednesday, May 25, 2022, and Thursday, May 26, 2022, we will offer delicious dinner options for takeout and delivery**.

In light of staffing issues, we will only be accepting orders online and will currently not offer in-store ordering or dine-in.

**The delivery option is only available for customers who live within 5 miles from burger-chan. Unfortunately you cannot pre-order for delivery; you have to order delivery on Wednesday or Thursday between 5:00pm and 7:30pm.

Will online ordering be allowed?

Customers can pre-order food and drink for dine-in or takeout on Sunday, 4/3/2022, from 4pm — 7pm. Pre-ordering online is closed. Online ordering will not be available the day of the dinner: on Monday, 4/4/2022.

Pre-ordering allows customers to secure certain items before they sell out. Since this is our first time doing a pop-up dinner and doing these dishes, we do not know the exact prep time for each dish. We will try our best to execute dishes in a timely manner, but the uncertainty means we cannot promise orders by a certain time.

Guests who have pre-ordered simply need to alert our staff upon arrival, and we will promptly start on the order at that time.

Will walk-ins be allowed?

Yes, walk-ins are encouraged and allowed, and no reservations are required.

We are planning for the Anti Burger Club ambience to be a little different than burger-chan. Table service, dimmer lights, and anime-inspired music!

Bad reviews are part of the business. We’ve been lucky to get mostly great reviews, but recently a string of 1 and 3 star reviews have been coming in, and we’d like to address some of the complaints. Complaint #1: The wait is too long.
Bad reviews are part of the business. We’ve been lucky to get mostly great reviews, but recently a string of 1 and 3 star reviews have been coming in, and we’d like to address some of the complaints. Complaint #1: The wait is too long. This is true – the wait is much longer than we’d like on certain days. One “helpful” reviewer suggested we don’t simultaneously do online orders when it’s busy; he is mistaken, because we turn it off whenever we get busy. The fact is, we’ve seen our business grow to a point where capacity has been reached (and sometimes exceeded). Our busy days have more than doubled, and we haven’t quite figured out how best to mitigate the wait time. Do we just close the line off the moment we reach a 30-minute wait and tell everyone in line to sit tight or go home? Or should we pre-cook a bunch of patties and just assemble a bunch of preset burgers to sit under a heat lamp like McDonald’s? Offering options and cooking to order takes time, but chef @willetcooks will continue to try and shorten the wait time without compromising too much. Complaint #2: It’s too hot / the owners are greedy and don’t tell people when the A/C is out. We know it gets hot around this time of year, but the accusations are wrong. We literally just dropped $25k to upgrade our A/C system. While there has been a definite improvement, it still can’t overcome the heat coming in from our return air system and the heat generated from an open kitchen. We apologize if it feels warm, but we are doing our best. Complaint #3: They are skimping on ingredients / the ingredients are inferior. We’d like to think both are false, but if you ever feel that way when you’re dining in, please let us know and we can address the issue. In fact, if there is a quality issue, we’d want to know! In one review, they seemed unhappy about our lettuce. We usually use iceberg, but occasionally switch to green leaf depending on quality and prices. Lately, lettuce in general have suffered a bit in quality, but we do our best to pick through it and discard anything that doesn’t look great. Apologies if you received subpar lettuce. Complaint #4: Prices are high.(Continued in comments.)
