Why Food is Love?

One year ago, the pandemic caused us to shut the restaurant down. Over the course of six months, we re-opened, closed temporarily, re-opened, and then closed for good.

During that immensely stressful time, our spirits were buoyed by the encouraging words and surprise gifts from various food & beverage (f&b) professionals--many of whom we'd never even met in person.

So we created the "Food is Love" initiative to pay forward all the kindness we had been bestowed in 2020. In the months before burger-chan opens in the Galleria-area, we have taken advantage of our down time to arrange several subsidized staff meal "swaps."

How does it work? We use the funds from pop-ups (tamago sando throwdown and “burger kolache” sales at “A Night Market”), contributions and t-shirt sales to pay local restaurants to make lunches. Then we deliver the lunches to a restaurant, bar, or cafe as a way of saying "thank you for being an essential worker." To top it off, we provide burgers from Click Virtual Food Hall as staff meals to the workers who made the lunches.

We also use the "Food is Love" platform to highlight local f&b establishments who are struggling during the pandemic.

We're just two people, so we can't take care of everyone or raise a million bucks. But we hope to counterbalance the anxiety and negativity caused by the pandemic with some food, some love, and some hope.
